Ta-Da

I finally finished.  Steve has been asking me for a blanket since he bought my sewing machine over 2 years ago, and all it took was this beautiful fabric at Joyce's.  An email came in a couple days ago and mentioned double sided minkee, well I just had to go and check out all the new fabrics.  I went with the girls after music class yesterday and Sophia chose "Bubblegum Pink" for daddy's valentine's blanket.

In order to have enough fabric to cover Steve from head-to-toe I bought 2 metres of fabric, and with the 150cm width it is large enough for the whole family to snuggle under and watch Curious George at night.

I also bought some other fabric at Joyce's the other day, mostly for Layla's room.  The fabric I bought is for her window seat and pillows, a work-in-progress.  I have to buy the foam for the window seat so we'll have somewhere to sit and read to her at night.

I'll have to get a picture of Steve sitting on the couch with the girls with his new blanket...the perfect addition to today's blog.

Butterflies

The inspiration for the butterfly on Layla's blanket is a mobile that we hung in her room after she was born. Although the colours are a little differemt I really like this embroidery.
So I'm happy to say I have completed Layla's bedding and it will be ready for her when we get back from the cottage in a week and a half.  It was hard for me to cut up this fabric, especially for bedding that might only last a couple years, but after seeing the finished product it was worth it.  And who knows, I'm sure there will be even more fabric later on that I will love just as much, I mean that Layla will love just as much ; ) Don't you just want to climb in and take a nap.

Well this might be my last blog for a while, as we are heading up to the cottage but I might just have a surprise tomorrow.  Stay tuned....

Pretty in Pink

Alright so I just couldn't resist showing both of these pictures of Layla in her new hat. In preparation for our week long vacation at the cottage I knew she would need something to keep that bare head warm. I bought this adorable yarn and knit her this 70s inspired toque. She might have to wear all of Sophia's hand-me-downs but this accessory is all Layla.

And who could resist that toothless grin : )

OK, enough procrastinating, back to that bedding of hers.

Happy Valentine's Day

I know that we're a bit early with Valentine's pictures, but the girls got all dressed up for the library class today so I thought I would take advantage of all the red and take a few pictures. We are getting ready for our week up at the cottage so I know I wouldn't have an opportunity to upload any other images on the actual day. Layla is wearing a very special outfit as well, even though you can't really see her socks came all the way from Holland!

Layla is at the stage that she will sit for her picture, however Sophia was not as cooperative this morning. But regardless of the photos, the video is priceless.

Purple Paradise

I have finally decided to finish Layla's bedding. I bought this fabric when Layla was only a couple months old, but apparently a few other projects have taken priority over her new sheets. I fell in love with this fabric as soon as I found it. Designer fabric at fabricland is hard to come by, so when I found it I knew I had to make Layla's room purple. Anna Griffin's Mackenzie pattern is even more beautiful in person than this picture shows. The plan is to make a fitted crib sheet, a blanket to keep her warm at night, with the white fleece as backing, and her window seat. Layla will be starting to sleep in her room after our week of holidays up at the cottage, so I decided to make the transition as appealing to her as possible.

Oh, and you might be wondering about the next picture. Well, I wanted to make a special treat for Sabrina today, so I whipped up some cinnamon buns this morning, well the breadmaker did the whipping, but I did the rest : ) I wanted to show that fabric girl is more than just fabric and yarn, and when I question the fact that I have gained back all the baby weight I've lost we can all point back to these "special" treats. Notice how they are half gone, mmm...

What's that I see???

Yes, that's right, my little rosebud is growing up. She had her first taste of cereal today. I think Sophia enjoyed the experience more than Layla did, but Layla did eat fairly well. I'm not covered in cereal so I will mark this one down as a success in my books.

They grow up so quickly : (

Warm and cozy

Sophia loves shoes and apparently anything else she can get to put on her feet, so as such she is the model for my reinvented and reknitted slippers. So what better way to display my new slippers, then with one of Sophia's favorite sayings "warm and cozy". And she sure is right in this case, these slippers were fun to make, once I realized that I did have enough yarn. I made the slippers a little shorter and made them tight enough to hug my feet. I don't think I realized just how warm they were until I took them off and my feet got cold.

The only problem is that Sophia was sliding around the floor yesterday, they are a lttle slippery. I won't be able to make Sophia her own pair for a while, but until Layla starts walking they will be perfect for her.

Band Practice

The girls are slowly returning to their normal behaviour, so we had some fun this morning with some of the instruments around the house. However, all Layla wants to do is bang the maracas on the floor, so of course Sophia decided to do the same thing. One of the few times that it isn't Layla trying to copy Sophia.

I can't wait for music class this week, the girls can show off their skills.
